Fall in Mystic

Fall in Mystic is a, well, Mystical time of year.  A little chill in the air doesn’t stop us New Englanders from enjoying the beautiful scenery and crisp air.  Winery harvest festivals, apple cider donuts, or a long fall drive, whichever your fall speed is, Mystic is the perfect escape.

We’ve gathered some of the can’t miss fall activities so that you can mark your calendar and book your escape now!

Wild Mushroom Festival -Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center
September 23rd  11am-4pm
Visit the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center on September 23rdfor the Wild Mushroom Festival.  Sample mushroom themed dishes from some of Mystic’s favorite restaurants.  Show your adventurous side and try mushroom ice cream or ice cream beer!  Work off those extra calories with a mushroom identification walk and learn about locally foraged mushrooms.  Enjoy live music by The Root Farms.  Admission is $20 per adult and includes 10 food tickets. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1 each.

Chowder Days – Mystic Seaport Museum
October 6-8

Warm up with a hot bowl of chowder and other fall favorites at the Mystic Seaport Museum.  Enjoy clam fritters and bisques along the banks of the Mystic River and explore the museum exhibits.  Live music is featured daily and food tickets are $1.00 each (not included in admission). Museum admission is required, however guests of The Whaler’s Inn can purchase discounted tickets at our front desk.

Harvest Festival – Jonathon Edwards Winery
October 6thand 7th 11am-5pm

Celebrate the autumn harvest season with good wine and good music in an amazing venue.  Shop the artisan vendor tents and grab lunch from local food trucks (or bring a picnic lunch).  Enjoy live music and a wine tasting with your admission.  Tickets are available for $25 in advance and $35 at the door.  This family friendly event offers face painting, a photo booth, and grape stomping contest.  

Pirate Invasion – Downtown Mystic
October 12th-14th

The pirates invade downtown Mystic and the banks of the Mystic River at this family friendly event.  Adults can get their grog on with a pub crawl on Saturday. Watch the militia protect the town from the invading pirates on Sunday with a battle on the river.  Kids collect their booty with a scavenger hunt throughout downtown Sunday afternoon, all within steps from the Inn!

Cider Tasting and Apple Cider Donuts at Clyde’s Cider Mill – EVERY DAY!A bushel of apples.

Let’s be honest, it is not fall in New England until you’ve had some apple cider and cider donuts.  We just happen to have the best of the best here in Mystic. Recently recognized as one of the best Apple Cider donuts in New England, B.F. Clyde’s Cider Mill has been making cider the same way since 1881.  Open 7 days a week from October-December, Clyde’s is a can’t miss when welcoming Fall in Mystic.
