Now that we’ve gotten the first snowfall over with, it’s time to talk Christmas! A light dusting of snow hits the sidewalks, the smell of peppermint and salty air surround you, and twinkling lights line the streets. Winter in Mystic is not complete without the annual Downtown Mystic Holiday Stroll & Luminaria. Begin your holiday shopping in Mystic, where shops stay open till 9:00 pm, making it convenient to cross names off your holiday shopping list. Local restaurants run holiday cocktail specials; perfect for warming you up between stopping in your favorite shops.  The town welcomes carolers, bell choirs, and Nutcracker Ballerinas as businesses pass out hot chocolate and candy canes.

Downtown Stroll and Luminaria

Each year Downtown Mystic becomes a magical holiday wonderland. Hundreds of white bags with candles line the sidewalks of East and West Main Street along with the major side streets.   Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, last year’s Luminaria was canceled but the stroll itself was still a success! Carolers stayed cozy inside both Mystic Museum of Art and with us here at The Whaler’s Inn. Hundreds of locals and tourists braved the rainy and windy conditions to take in the holiday spirit and start their holiday shopping in Mystic. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the perfect winter evening for this year’s event on December 4th!

Some wonderful new additions will enhance this year’s event. In addition to the traditional stroll events, this year will also feature a gift-wrapping station at Drwb@24. For those over 21, a Holiday Cocktail stroll will keep your toes warm. Over a dozen restaurants will feature the perfect winter themed refreshments to keep you in the holiday spirit on the walk to your next stop. Event maps will be online and at participating restaurants and shops.  For shoppers with little ones in tow, be sure to stop by The Whaler’s Inn for a visit with Santa!
