The Not So Old – Olde Mistick Village

The Olde Mistick Village offers an invaluable shopping experience with 30 unique shops, 9 restaurants, and a boutique movie theater.  The shopping experience at the village is one of a kind with shops that make handcrafted gifts, souvenirs, local honey, and soaps.  While Olde Mistick Village is a great stop year-round, as temperatures rise the village seems to come alive with a flock of resident ducks, meeting house, and “town” green.

Opening in 1973 as an homage to 1720 Colonial-style village visitors quickly realize that they are not visiting your run-of-the-mill shopping center.  Shoppers delight in the variety of locally owned boutique shops that line the walkways.  Gourmet honey at Sticky Situations (with lots and lots of samples), Scandinavian wares at Bestemors, and kitchen gadgets galore of Kitch are just a few of the must-stop shops during your visit.  Gameday spectators can find all the apparel that they need to show their team spirit at Taylor’s Sports and for those who would rather run than watch the runners, Kelley’s Pace offers the best in running footwear and apparel.

For Your Sweet Tooth

If you are visiting the Olde Mistick Village on the weekend the absolute can’t miss is Deviant Donuts at Vault Coffee Roasters.  This ever-changing gourmet donut menu has locals lining up before opening on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Be sure to get there early as these overly indulgent A.M. treats sell out by mid-afternoon.  If morning sweets aren’t your splurge on “Connecticut’s Best Cupcake” at the Bleu Squid.  Named for the pungent cheese “Bleu Squid” also offers the best of the best ooey gooey grilled cheese sandwiches for those with more of a savory tooth.

Have time to catch a movie or visiting on a rainy day?  Kick back and relax at The Mystic Luxury Cinemas in their comfortable leather recliner seats.  Popcorn will almost complete the viewing experience, but why not add a glass of local wine or a pint of beer, served at the concession stand, to round out your true luxury cinema experience.

The Monk and The Monkfish

The village an incredible variety of cuisine from casual to fine dining.   Enjoy a warm summer day with friends or family at the Jealous Monk in their relaxing outdoor picnic table seating.  Fashioned after a European Beer garden the outdoor fire pits create the perfect spot to warm up on a chilly Spring night. This spot also offers a plethora of lawn and board games and an impressive selection of 32 craft beers from around the world. Offering a more upscale atmosphere, Go Fish features a sushi and raw bar along with a variety of fresh seafood dishes.  This newly renovated space offers a beautiful outdoor dining area and lots of natural light inside!

The Olde Mistick Village is open from 10am-6pm and hosts a variety of wonderful events year-round for both children and adults alike.  Local favorites include the Cabin Fever Festival in February and the winter event, Festival of Lights, when thousands of luminaries line the walkways ushering in the holiday season.  Coming up in April, visit the village on April 20th from 12-4 for Easter Egg Hunts and a visit from the Easter Bunny!
